Country's handicraft export advanced by 17.56 per cent to $2.7
billion during the financial year 2011-12 as compared to the same period
in 2010-11, as informed by the nodal body of handicraft exports today.
The country witnessed the growth despite the sluggish demand in major importing markets like the US and Europe.
The US and Europe together account for more than 60 per cent of the country's total handicraft exports.
During the financial year 2010-11, the exports stood at $2.3 billion,
as per the figures of the Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts
(EPCH). In the last fiscal, the growth was mainly driven by growing
demand in new markets like China and Latin America.
